Milling centre ofers choice of spindles
In terms of working space capacity, a new milling centre offers 16m3 of work space and its modular design offers a choice of spindles and milling heads for the mould and die industries.
In terms of working space capacity, the new DMU 340P Giga Milling Centre offers the equivalent of 530, DMU 35 universal milling machines, DMG's smallest! Needless to say however, this new addition offers much more than just 16m3 of working space. The DMU 340P is of modular design and can be adapted with various spindles and milling head options for individual requirements. The standard model features a swivelling NC milling head for universal five axis machining and is fitted with a 44kW motor spindle for maximum speeds of 10,000 rpm and torque of 28Nm.
Alternatively, DMG offers a controlled gear motor including b-axis.
This is high- end solution that delivers a torque rating of 1,550Nm at speeds up to 6,300 rev/min.
In conjunction with a pallet changing system (optionally expandable to four pallets) this universal machine becomes the high-productive DMC 340U for workpieces up to 10,000 kg.
The flexibility of this machine not only allows high performance milling but also turning.
For this purpose, a combined NC milling-turning table can be specified.
This operates at a maximum speed of 120 rev/min and replaces the NC rotary table.
The 'Unimold' version of the DMU 340P is designed specifically to meet the high-speed machining requirements of the tool and mould industry.
This variant features an attachable spindle for speeds up to 24,000 rev/min in addition to the standard NC milling head with B-axis.
And for those wishing to achieve both roughing and smoothing of complex workpieces in one set-up, the range includes the double headed 'Dynamold' DMU 340P.
With the milling head at the start position, the 'Dynamold' user can first initiate careful rough cutting with a tool that can be adjusted to the workpiece through +/-30deg.
The spindle head is then swivelled through 180 deg to present a high-speed fork head with two dynamic NC axes of rotation that allow 5-axis finishing at speeds of up to 24,000 rev/min.
In all its stages of expansion, the DMU 340P and the DMC 340U benefit from fast rapid traverses of 60m/min., in X, 30m/min in Y and 40m/min in Z together with accelerations of up to 0.6G.
Chip-to-chip times are typically 15 seconds.
Tools weighing up to 30kg are fitted from the standard 60-station magazine; 120, 180 and 240 pockets are optionally available.
The portal design of this machine ensures maximum rigidity and in conjunction with Deckel Maho's own patented compact milling spindle and the 45deg milling head design, the DMU 340P provides the user with maximum manufacturing precision.
To complete the package, the user also has the choice of high-tech CNC systems - MillPlus IT, Siemens Sinumerik 840D powerline and Heidenhain iTNC530.
